This is one of at least 20 decor sewing books that are housed at my local library and it has long been my favorite. Although it was first published in 2005, most of the projects feature the clean and unruffled edges that have been current for several years. After watching the defunct Nate Berkus Show for ideas, I used this book to combine bold, modern fabrics and with antiques when I redecorated my daughter's room while she was away for her Freshman year of college. Using the easy to follow measuring information included in each project description, I purchased low cost fabric from Ikea and sewed box cushions with piping for 2 chairs, a seat pad for a dressing table bench, unlined curtain panels, and a "fitted valance" bed skirt. These projects pulled a room full of mismatched antique furniture together with great style and all of the projects came from this book alone. My daughter is fashionable and picky, but she loved it all so much that she begged to take it all with her when she moved out of her dorm Junior year. With so many good decorating blogs to mine for ideas, a moderate amount of sewing experience, this book, and a sewing machine will help you create great looking rooms.
